India-Australia Day 1: Smith Back in Action; Aus. lose two wickets on 166 runs while Rain ruined half of the day

India and Australia kicks off their third Test match in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy today at Sydney Cricket Ground. Though the rain ruined half of the day in Sydney. At the end of the day Australia scored 166 runs losing two wickets.

Earlier Australia won the toss and chose to bat first like the Melbourne Test match. With the new opening pair Australia started the innings. Will Pucovski made his International Test debut while David Warner made his comeback in the series after suffering from groin injury in the ODI series on the same tour.

Australia didn’t have good start as Warner got caught behind in the 4th over by Indian pacer Mohammad Siraj. Pujara caught him behind the stumps in the slips. Later on rain stopped the game for some time; rain started heavily in some time and the play got delayed.

After a long break when the game resumed, India missed two catching chances for both the batsmen. Wicket keeper Rishabh Pant nearly missed two easy catches in the over of Ashwin and Siraj respectively. Later on Pucovski and Labuschagne hold the strings for Australia, set a good platform and started attacking stance in the end of 2nd session.

None bowler could stop them and Pucovski crossed 50 run mark with a four. He became 82nd Australian batsman to score fifty on the debut match. Early in the third session Navdeep Saini, India’s debutant fast bowler got Pucovski in his trap. He got him LBW on 62 runs in 110 balls.

Star batsman Smith and Labuschagne later countered third session till the end. Labuschagne played out of skin and scored maiden half-century while Smith showed the intent in this match. Smith haven’t scored any big runs till now in this Test series but seeing his game methods he will surely make good comeback.
