Sydney Cricket Ground will host the third Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The two teams have pocketed a victory each in the first two matches. The hosts beat India in the first match at Adelaide after the Aussie bowlers bowled India to their lowest total in Test cricket. In the second Test match, Ajinkya Rahane led the team in Virat Kohli’s absence, the visitors grabbed a comprehensive eight-wicket victory at Melbourne. The outcome of the on-going series will possibly be coming in the fourth Test match.
Team India are yet to lose a Test match at Sydney Cricket Ground since January 2012. The last two India vs Australia Test encounters at the SCG have ended in a draw. In the head-to-head competition between the two teams, Australia clearly has the upper hand as they have beaten India six times out of the 12 matches they played and lost once. The two teams share five draws at the venue.
India played 12 Test matches against Australia at the SCG and managed to register only one win. That triumph came in the year 1978 when EAS Prasanna, BS Chandrashekhar, and Bishan Singh Bedi helmed India to an innings win against the Aussies.
The Sydney Cricket Ground has hosted 108 Test matches out of which Australia won 60, lost 28 and drew 20 games.
