The trailer of director Ashwiny Iyer Tiwary’s Panga (Nil Battey Sannata, Bareilly Ki Barfi), featuring Kangana Ranaut, Jassie Gill and Richa Chaddha in principal roles, released a while back and generated a lot of interest amongst the audience. In the film, Kangana is seen as a 32-year old woman who, like so many women in India, struggles to strike a balance between her domestic responsibilities and career based duties. While she is trying to do that, an opportunity comes along to get back to playing kabaddi, a sport which she was once devoted to, at a professional level.
Among other things, the trailer showcased the relationship shared by Jaya (Kangana Ranaut) and her husband Prashant (Jassie Gill). We see Prashant being a pillar of support in Jaya’s life and motivates her to get back at doing what she liked so much – playing kabaddi. Prashant, in a way, represents so many modern men in the country today who, unlike the ones from the earlier generations, encourage their better halves to pursue a professional career and achieve their dreams.
Jassie, who has been a popular singer and actor back in Punjab, managed to impress the pan-India audience with his performance in his debut Hindi film Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi. In that film, too, he played a very positive character and with his selection of roles, one feels he is inclined towards playing such roles.
While Kangana plays the central character in Panga, Jassi is expected to bring a nuanced performance as Prashant and leave a lasting impression on the audience all over again in his second Hindi outing.
