Poet and lyricist Javed Akhtar has filed a defamation case against actor Kangana Ranaut.

In the complaint, submitted before the Metropolitan Magistrate in Mumbai's Andheri, Akhtar, 75, accused the 33-year-old of making defamatory and baseless comments against him, while speaking in the context of fellow actor Sushant Singh Rajput's death.

Details: Akhtar seeks action against the actor under IPC

In the complaint, Akhtar said that Kangana unnecessarily dragged his name while talking about an alleged "coterie" in Bollywood.

She had also earlier claimed that Akhtar had threatened her not to speak about her alleged relationship with actor Hrithik Roshan, his complaint further added.

He has sought action against Kangana under the Sections 499 and 500 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Details: First hearing will be held in December

According to reports, the first hearing of the case against Kangana has been scheduled for December 3, 2020.

For the unversed, Kangana has been attacking sections of the Hindi film industry in the wake of Sushant's death earlier in June.

She has claimed that the late actor was a victim of nepotism in Bollywood and was also facing a boycott from several leading filmmakers.

Fact: Sushant died by alleged suicide in June

Sushant, 34, was found dead inside his apartment in Mumbai on June 14. An expert panel of doctors has ruled the cause of his death as suicide. Meanwhile, investigations by three central agencies, including the CBI, are currently underway in the matter.

Developments: Kangana, sister Rangoli summoned by police in separate case

Kangana was also involved in a bitter war-of-words with several leaders of the ruling Shiv Sena in Maharashtra.

Recently, a police complaint was lodged against the actor and her sister, Rangoli, for allegedly promoting enmity between communities through their remarks.

Both have been issued a notice by the Mumbai Police, which requires them to appear for investigation on November 10 and November 11.
