Queer Eye star Jonathan Van Ness has put himself forward for Sandi Toksvig’s job on the Great British Bake Off.

Toksvig announced this week that she will be leaving the much-loved baking show after serving as a presenter for three series, in order to “spend more time with [her] other work”.

And it seems Van Ness thinks he is just the man to fill her slot.

Taking to Twitter, he shared a picture of Bake Off judges Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood and presenters Toksvig and Noel Fielding - with his head Photoshopped onto Toksvig’s.

“I’ve heard a rumor… #GBBO,” posted the US star.

Van Ness’s idea went down a storm with fans who posted a flurry of messages saying: “Yes please!”

“Shut the front door!!!!!!! Please let this be true!” said one excited fan, while another tweeted: “This would make my life!”

“Can you IMAGINE Jonathan squaring up against Paul - I've never wanted anything so badly in my life,” said another.

Toksvig, 61, has fronted Bake Off alongside Fielding ever since the show made the move from the BBC to Channel 4 in 2017.

Announcing her exit, she said in a statement: “When stepping down from a job it is quite common for people to say they are doing so in order to spend more time with their family.

“Unusually I am departing from the Great British Bake Off so I can spend more time with my other work.

“As my waistline will testify, Bake Off is an all-consuming show. Spending time with Prue, Paul and Noel has been one of the great pleasures of my life. These are friendships which I know will continue beyond the confines of television.

Bake Off is a wonderful programme which has already proved it can happily withstand a change of hosting personnel. The reason for that, of course, is that the true stars of the show are the bakers themselves. I wish everyone well.”
