Watch Renée Zellweger transform into Judy Garland in exclusive clip from buzzed-about biopic 'Judy'

The Oscars are months away, but Renée Zellweger is already generating serious awards buzz for her turn as stage and screen legend Judy Garland following the premiere of the biopic Judy at the Telluride Film Festival last weekend. Now the film heads north of the border to the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival before opening in U.K. cinemas in October.

In advance of the film's tour through Toronto, Yahoo has an exclusive look at Judy (watch above), which finds an overly tired Garland woken up by a room service delivery with a side of hidden man (Finn Wittrock playing Mickey Deans, the musician who became her fifth and final husband).

Directed by Rupert Goold from a script by Tom Edge (based on the stage play End of the Rainbow by Peter Quilter), Judy tracks the Wizard of Oz star's tumultuous 1968 residency in London as she struggled with depression and addiction in the final year of her life.

As Zellweger told us earlier this year, filming Judy was "a very special experience. It was sort of an impossible shooting schedule, and it seemed impossible, but everybody came to work every day and gave it their all. … There was this love for Judy on set every day. Every person, every crew person, all of us. It was just a celebration of her and her humanity and what a beautiful human being she was and the gifts that she gave to all of us with her generous nature and her body of work that she left behind."

Judy is the first feature film to be made about Garland and is set to open in UK cinemas on 2 October.
