From failed attempts at conceiving for years to emerging as confident single moms despite societal prejudices, these celeb moms have come a long way. As the year 2019 comes to a close, here's a look at their inspiring journeys.
For Ekta Kapoor, the year 2019 began with her welcoming her bundle of joy, her baby son, after seven years of trying to conceive. The single mother had her baby via surrogacy after multiple unsuccessful cycles of IUI and IVF, she had revealed. The TV czarina is new to motherhood but is successfully juggling her parenting and professional responsibilities.
Vandana welcomed her baby boy Vanraj Krishna, with Shahid Kapoor's step father Rajesh Khattar, in August this year. But the journey to parenthood was extremely challenging for the couple. It was after multiple miscarriages, IVFs, IUI and surrogacy that Vanraj was finally conceived. "I have been through failed IUI, IVF, pregnancies and surrogacies, dealt with my own hormonal and related turmoil, depression, and survived a botched up delivery," the mother said in an interview. Even her last pregnancy was not a smooth one for Vandana. Rajesh was quoted as saying in an interview, "Many months ago, we were ecstatic when the doctor revealed that Vandana was carrying twins, but during her third month, she was diagnosed with a condition and had to be hospitalised. A few months later, it came to light that the growth of one of our babies was very slow and finally, we lost him...Vandana's surgery did not go smoothly and she took a long time to heal; also, our baby was put in NICU (Newborn Intensive Care Unit) and was there for two-and-a-half months."
The Sacred Games 2 actress may have shocked many when she announced she was pregnant with her first child with boyfriend Guy Hershberg. In a society where pregnancy out of the wedlock is a taboo, Kalki, who is also having her first child at the age of 35, asserted that for the couple, marriage was not a prerequisite for taking a step ahead in their relationship and having a baby together. "Guy and I do not want to rush into marriage because of the pregnancy. The pregnancy has already brought in enough changes that we are happily dealing with at the moment. Marriage can wait," she had told Express Parenting in an interview.
The Dev D actress recently revealed she was a single unmarried mom to daughter Veronica and was happy being so. She was quoted as saying, "I am happy like this (single) and I think one can stay happily unmarried. One can have a family and kids even without marriage."
Meghan Markle became pregnant with Baby Archie after 35 and gave birth in May this year. Despite all criticism, the mother made sure she welcomed and raised her child as she wanted. From their decision to not take hospital photos after delivery to keeping her baby from public eye, parents Meghan and Harry broke royal traditions one after the other but only for the well-being of their child.
