Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut has been very vocal on her Twitter page. Every day, she shares her opinions and thoughts with her fans via the public page. A recent tweet, however, isn’t going down very well with fans. Early on Wednesday morning, the actress in an ‘appreciation tweet’ for ‘ancient women’ shamed contemporary ‘achievers’ for wearing ‘American jeans and rags’, instead of upholding their own cultures.
Sharing an old photo with a caption of three women achievers, the caption identified them as the ‘first female licensed doctors in their respective countries,’ i.e, India, Japan, Syria. Kangana wrote, “Appreciation tweet for ancient women who not only represented their individuality but their entire civilisation, cultures and nations. Today if such achievers are to be clicked they will all wear torn American jeans n rags like blouses, representing nothing but American marketing.”
While she did point out how clothes have become in tune with other countries’ fast-fashion movements, several people, however, pointed out that Kangana herself sported exactly the clothes she criticized.
This isn’t the first time she has faced flak on social media for criticizing women’s choice of clothing. Kangana recently attacked pop singer Rihanna for commenting on the ongoing farmers’ protest, by shaming her choice in clothing. On several occasions, she has also shamed other Bollywood actresses, including Deepika Padukone, Alia Bhatt, Taapsee Pannu and more.
Very recently, she also drew comparisons between herself and other popular actors: Ranaut declared she has raw talent like Oscar-winning actress Meryl Streep, and skilled action capabilities and glamour like actress Gal Gadot. Her very public Twitter spat with Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh in December also drew her negative criticism.
