Karnam Malleswari: Even If One Child Believes That No Dream Is Too Big To Chase, My Work Here Is Done

Today’s thought of the day is by Karnam Malleswari, known as the Iron Lady, a weightlifting legend in the history of the sport. While Malleswari won the bronze in the Sydney Games 2000, the momentum was already set by her winning two gold and two silver medals in the world championships and a few gold medals at the Asian level.

A recipient of the Arjuna Award (1994), Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award (1999) and Padma Shri Award (1999), Malleswari is currently the vice-chancellor of Delhi Sports University. She also founded the Karanam Malleswari Foundation, a first of its kind weightlifting and powerlifting academy, in an effort to see her beloved sport flourish in India.
