Kate Ferdinand has revealed she felt "abnormal" as she struggled to come to terms with her post-baby body.

Rio Ferdinand's wife gave birth to her first child, son Cree, in December and was praised for sharing an honest photo of her body 11 days after he arrived.

In the Instagram post, the 29-year-old had extensive bruising to her legs from the birth and also showed her post-birth bump in a large pair of black pants as she cradled her newborn son.

Now, Ferdinand has told The Sun how she was struggling to recognise her body and was panicking about her rollercoaster of emotions.

She said: "My body was not the body I recognised. I felt really overwhelmed.

“I was feeling really abnormal and I started panicking. ‘Am I meant to be feeling like this?’"

Ferdinand, who is also stepmum to Rio's three children from his first marriage to late wife Rebecca Ellison, described herself as "happy but very emotional" as she remembered wondering whether her feelings as a new mum were normal.

She decided that she "had to share" the honest photo of her reality with a newborn, rather than a picture with her hair and make-up done perfectly.

Ferdinand also admitted to worrying that she would never "go back to normal" after the whirlwind of her first weeks with Cree, but said that she had "come out of the other side".

But she added: “I am a bit freaked out that those big black knickers have been seen by the world.”

Former Towie star Ferdinand, who is now known for her love of health and fitness, also said during the interview that she had felt pressure to bounce back after Cree's birth but that it wasn't realistic with four children to look after.

She added that she had felt anxious about feeding and changing six-month-old Cree outside of home for the first time after spending much of his life so far in lockdown.
