The Lion King performed exceptionally well as it closed out its first week collection on a grand note.
After the success of The Jungle Book, The Beauty And The Beast and Aladdin, Disney’s fourth installment is working wonders at the ticket window. Though the reviews from the critics have been negative to mixed, the fans of the The Lion King are showing at the theaters with families which is converting into a good moolah.
After the blockbuster The Jungle Book, Jon Favreau has taken over the responsibility of adapting The Lion King into a live-action film with CGI remake and features stars like Donald Glover, Beyonce Knowles-Carter and James Earl Jones who will be reprising his role as Mufasa. The Lion King opened to solid number of Rs 11.06 crore, becoming 6th highest Hollywood opening film of all time after Avengers: Endgame (Rs 53.10 crore), Avengers: Infinity War (Rs 31.30 crore), Captain Marvel (Rs 13.01 crore), Fast & Furious 7 (Rs 12.30 crore) & Deadpool 2 (Rs 11.25 crore).
The Lion King showed a very good growth on Saturday with Rs 19.15 crore on Saturday followed by a staggering Rs 24.54 crore on Sunday. The collection was stable on Monday with Rs 7.90 crore. The collection was good on Tuesday with Rs 7.02 crores followed by Rs 6.25 crore on Wednesday. As per early trade estimates, the earning of the Disney’s classic is Rs 5.70 crore on Thursday, bringing the first week total collection to Rs 81.62 crores.
Shah Rukh Khan has dubbed the voice of Mufasa in Hindi language while his son, Aryan Khan, has given voice of Simba. Other voice over is provided by Ashish Vidyarthy, Sanjay Mishra, Shreyas Talpade and Shernaz Patel.
