Hollywood takes over the Bollywood as Lion King roared at the box office in the morning show occupancy across India.
After the success of The Jungle Book, Jon Favreau is back with live-action adaption of the animated block buster – The Lion King. If you were a 90’s kid, you would probably remember watching the animation movie, The Lion King. The Lion King was released in 1994 under the production of Walt Disney Feature Animation and was directed by Roger Allers and Rob Minkoff. The animated film tells the story of Simba who returns back to his Pride and avenges the murder of his father, Mufasa, from his wicked uncle, Scar. The Lion King opened to a fabulous response from the critics and the audience and made a worldwide gross of $766 million becoming the highest-grossing release of 1994.
Now, Jon Favreau has taken over the responsibility of adapting it into a live-action film with CGI remake and features stars like Donald Glover, Beyonce Knowles-Carter and James Earl Jones who will be reprising his role as Mufasa.
As per trade estimates, Lion King opened to a good response in the morning shows somewhere between 30-35% occupancy in domestic market.
Though the opening is less than the previous Hollywood blockbuster, Spider-Man Far From Home, the collections should pick up in the evening and night shows.
