New Liverpool signing Harvey Elliott has made a public apology after a video emerged of him appearing to mock Harry Kane.

The video, posted on Snapchat, shows teenager Elliott watching this year’s Champions League when Kane’s Tottenham Hotspur had just lost 2-0 to Elliot’s new club.

As the Spurs striker appears on screen, 16-year-old Elliott, who joined The Reds from Fulham this summer, does an exaggerated impression of Kane’s voice while using a derogatory term.

After the video came to light on social media, Elliott, who had just featured for Liverpool in a 3-1 friendly win over Lyon, took to Instagram to address the issue.

“I would just like to wholeheartedly apologise for any offence caused on the back of a video of me currently circulating on the internet,” he wrote.

The player added: “The video was taken whilst messing around with friends in a private environment and was not directed at any individual but I realise that my actions were both immature and senseless.

“I would like to stress that the contents of the video do not represent who I am as a person or how I’ve been brought up, and I truly am sorry.”

Midfielder Elliott made his Fulham debut in 2018 against Millwall in the Carabao Cup aged just 15 years and 174 days, making him the club’s youngest ever first team player and the youngest player to feature in that competition.

In May 2019, Elliott became the youngest ever Premier League player at 16 years and 30 days after making his debut as a sub for The Whites against Wolves.

Elliott’s first Liverpool appearance came in a 12 minute substitute cameo in a 3-0 friendly defeat to Napoli just hours after his transfer was confirmed.
