Wine is a truly, truly wonderful thing in lots of different ways. And it also kinda sucks in lots of others.
Sure, it tastes great and all that but it also has the calories - and some headache-inducing hangover power - to boot.
Which is why we're pretty over-the-moon to hear that M&S is launching a wine that contains just half the calories of a regular bottle. Call it 'diet' wine, if you will.

The best bit is that M&S has managed to find a wine that has a reduced calorie count, but a fairly decent alcohol percentage of 8.5%.
There are three different varieties of wine to choose from, all made for the high street giant by Journey’s End winery in Stellenbosch, South Africa.

The Sumika Sauvignon Blanc white wine with “refreshing flavours of elderflower, passionfruit and peach“ contains 50 calories per 100ml, while the Sumika Shiraz red wine with hints of “mocha, blackberry and spice notes” has 52 calories.
There is also a Sumika Rose which is "light, elegant and refreshing with flavours of wild strawberries and raspberries".

And according to critics, it tastes good!
Wine critic Jilly Goolden told the Mail Online: "This is a breakthrough. So far low-alcohol and low-calories have been a great disappointment. Some are disgusting. But this is a great step forward."
