Aashiqui 2, directed by Mohit Suri, had Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor in principal roles. Both the actors had a few films to their credit but none of those films did anything to propel their respective career forward. Aashiqui 2 became a major success – it was one of the biggest hits of 2013 if we take the return on investment in consideration.
After Aashiqui 2, Aditya Roy Kapur did a slew of films but none of them managed to leave an impact at the box-office. He did see some good reviews coming his way for his performance in these films but commercial success was something which has eluded him for a while. Even Mohit, who delivered another big hit after Aashiqui 2 in the form of Ek Villain, has been looking for a clean hit for a while. His last few films (Hamaari Adhuri Kahaani, Half Girlfriend) did not lose money but were not big successes either.
Malang, hence, is an important film both for its lead actor and director. Mohit is known to be very good at handling emotions and he did that with elan in Aashiqui 2. Aditya, too, left a mark with his portrayal of characters who are in love in films like Daawat-E-Ishq, Fitoor and OK Jaanu. While the romance factor remains common between Aashiqui 2 and Malang, this time around there is a good dose of thrill and action in store for the audience. One saw a good glimpse of it in the trailer.
While thrills constitute an integral part in the film, the mainstay, like most of Mohit’s films, is emotion. This is a good mix indeed and one looks forward to see how these elements come to the fore on the screen.
