The morning of June 30, 2021, gave a big shock to everyone in the entertainment industry with the reports of Mandira Bedi’s filmmaker-husband, Raj Kaushal’s untimely death. As per Raj's friend, music director, Sulaiman Merchant, Raj had complained about getting a heart attack at 4 am, and Mandira along with their close friend, Ashish Chawdhry had rushed him to the hospital. But before they could reach the hospital, Raj had left the world forever, leaving behind his wife, Mandira and their kids, Vir and Tara.
For the unversed, Mandira Bedi had met Raj Kaushal in 1996 and the duo had tied the knot in 1999 after dating for three years. It was in 2011, when Mandira and Raj had embraced parenthood and had welcomed their first child, Vir Kaushal. In 2020, they completed their family by adopting a baby girl, Tara Bedi Kaushal.
On July 5, 2021, Mandira took to her Twitter handle and shared her first tweet post Raj’s death. Mandira shared a throwback picture with Raj, where the two were seen goofing around. While Mandira posed for the picture, Raj was seen pointing towards the camera. She captioned the picture as “RIP my Raji.”
Raj Kaushal’s untimely death had shocked his friends and everyone from the entertainment industry. Mandira and Raj's friends, Onir, Rohit Bose Roy, Neha Dhupia, Tisca Chopra and others penned their eulogies, expressing the shock on knowing about the filmmaker's demise. Neha had posted Raj's last Instagram post, a group picture of the friends in one frame, with the caption, "Raj, we took this picture to create more and more memories… can't believe you are nt with us anymore … Mandira, my strong strong girl, I am at a loss of words. My heart belongs to Vir and Tara … I'm shaken up and in shock and disbelief as I write this, RIP Raj."
Mandira was shaken to the core after Raj’s death and was inconsolable. But despite the sudden turmoil, she had shown courage and had performed her late husband’s last rites. From shouldering Raj’s body to carrying the earthen pot for the rites, Mandira’s broke the gender stereotypes.
After five days of Raj’s death, Mandira had paid him a silent tribute. Mourning her late husband’s death, Mandira had deleted her Instagram profile picture, adding a black frame instead. She had also shared pictures with her late husband, Raj Kaushal from one of their dinner dates and had captioned it with a heartbroken emoticon.
We wish Mandira a lot of strength to cope with her loss.
