Her career was on the ascent long before she got married – but Michelle Keegan has revealed she has been frequently subjected to the outdated notion that she should turn down work to focus on her relationship with husband Mark Wright.
The actress, 33, explained how, shortly after their 2015 wedding, she found herself flying to South Africa and Malaysia to film Our Girl just as the ex-TOWIE star's presenting roles became based in LA.
In an interview with the Daily Mail's You magazine, she noted how this sparked false media claims that their marriage was under strain, pointing out: "Going away for work is never seen as a good thing, only as a negative, and I don’t understand that.

"Are you seriously supposed to turn down work in case it impacts your marriage? I find it ridiculous."
The former Coronation Street star also opened up about how, around the time they walked down the aisle in 2015, the attention surrounding their relationship became very intense.
Keegan said: "I felt we lost control a little bit. We were in every newspaper and magazine every week."
For this reason, she now rarely posts pictures of her other half on her Instagram account, preferring to keep her personal life to herself.
This also includes whether or not the couple will have children – and she describes the question, one she is regularly asked, as "no one else’s business".
Keegan – who is currently starring in Brassic – added: "Nobody else knows what goes on behind closed doors. I think that’s the reason that question affects me so much – it’s very private!"
Last month, Wright revealed how "grateful" he was to have her in his life after both his parents and two uncles contracted coronavirus.
Speaking to Hello!, he said: "I've learnt what is most important in life, how important health is, how important family is. That is the number one happiness, the love around you.
"I am just grateful that I get to have her [Michelle] by my side every day, to have someone I can share my life with."
