Last year, in 2019, Kriti Sanon had four releases – Luka Chuppi, Arjun Patiala, Housefull 4 and Panipat. While Luka Chuppi and Housefull 4 did very well at the box-office, Panipat brought in some glowing reviews her way for her performance. Arjun Patiala was a much delayed release – it came and went away without causing any major positive or negative dent on her career graph. All these four films were vastly different from each other, both in terms of the genre and the kind of world they were set in.
Luka Chuppi was a romantic comedy, Arjun Patiala was a spoof based comedy, Panipat was a historical drama and Housefull 4 was a slapstick comedy with a tinge of periodic element thrown in for good effect. These films gave Kriti to show her versatility as an actress and gave her enough scope to showcase the fact that she can slip into different cinematic worlds effortlessly. If one looks at her filmography, there is a certain pattern as far as her selection of films is concerned.
While there has been out-and-out commercial entertainers like Heropanti and Dilwale, there have been content-driven films like Bareilly Ki Barfi which have been mounted on a smaller scale. Last year, too, there was a mix of such films what with Housefull 4 and Panipat being big-scale projects and Luka Chuppi and Arjun Patiala were moderately budgeted films that were more rooted in the real world.
Going by her upcoming slate of films, she definitely plans to continue moving ahead while striking this balance in her career. This year, she will be seen playing the central protagonist in Mimi, a film which is being helmed by Luka Chuppi director Laxman Utekar. In the film, Kriti plays a young, surrogate mother and just like most films backed by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films, this one also is a high-concept film which has a novel story at the core of it. Her second release of the year will be the Farhad Samji directed Bachchan Pandey in which she is paired opposite her Housefull 4 co-star Akshay Kumar. Bachchan Pandey is expected to be an out-and-out action entertainer which should regale the audience hoping to watch a film of this nature on Christmas.
