Bollywood is not for everyone.
Some realise it sooner and tread different paths to make different achievements in life, while others keep trying till the industry throws them off.
In this giant rigmarole of realizations and refusals, we have seen many of our beloved celebs fading out into oblivion, leaving us wondering, “where are they, how are they...?”
This “Missing Report” series digs deep into the untold stories of such missing stars, and today we are covering Amrita Arora.
In 2002, the Fardeen Khan starrer, Kitne Door Kitne Paas, released with a formula-script. The movie also featured a new face as the leading lady; audiences got to know she was famous VJ, model, and Chaiyaa-Chaiyya fame Malaika Arora Khan’s sister. She was Amrita Arora.
In looks, features, and personality, Amrita was nothing like her sister; with a round pretty face, she was more cute than sexy. Had an intense girl-next-door appeal, but a beautiful girl next door who could floor any boy of tender age. Clearly, she was the ideal pick for the romantic flick. The love story, however, was a box office disaster, but the debutant had already grabbed eyeballs with her appeal and had signed a couple of new projects instantly.
After Kitne Door Kitne Paas, came Vikram Bhatt’s multi-starrer action-comedy, Awara Pagal Deewana that did an average business at the box office. She was also seen in David Dhawan’s Ek Aur Ek Gyarah that turned out to be a surprise Super Hit.
Rohit Shetty offered her an item number in his directorial debut with Ajay Devgn and Abhishekh Bachchan. She was an enchantress in the chart-topping Dilli ki Sardi. The actress made it clear that she could be sweet, but if needed, she could slip in tiny outfits and unleash the sexy side of her persona as well.
The pretty-faced petite actress however couldn’t go beyond a certain limit with her Bollywood flight. After appearing in a few multi-starers, she started getting roped in in supportive roles, the hero’s ex in some, the heroine’s bestie in others. She was part of Golmaal Returns and Kambakkht Ishq, but in insignificant roles that could have used just about anyone. It was clear; her Bollywood career wasn’t going anywhere.
In fact, Amrita Arora had been in the news less for any movie she was ever a part of, and more for her high-profile friendship with Kareena Kapoor. When Amrita decided to step out of Bollywood and tie the knot with Shakeel Ladak in a white wedding, Kareena Kapoor, along with Malaika Arora Khan, turned bridesmaids in beautiful single shoulder peach gowns.
Soon after marrying Ladak, Amrita welcomed her first bundle of joy, Azaan. In 2012, the couple was blessed with another son and named him Rayaan. Coming from a broken family with a Malayali Christian mother and Punjabi father, the mother of two has weaved in a perfect nest for a blissful family of four.
Friendships are not famous for lasting in this town, but Kareena-Amrita is only getting stronger by the hour. Together, Malaika, Karisma, Kareena, and Amrita are a house on fire, from casual brunches to holidaying in exotic locations - these besties have done it all, and continue to do so in style.
In 2015, she had startled her fans with an unexpected appearance in Star Plus’ series, Kuch Toh Hai Tere Mere Darmiyaan under the banner of Balaji Telefilms. This could have marked a fresh start for her acting career in a different avenue, but the show didn’t impress the tele-viewers and was wrapped up in 2 seasons and 83 episodes.
Though Amrita hasn’t been in any movies since 2009, and the fleeting television stint couldn’t salvage her acting aspirations either, she never fails to make it to headlines. She is a regular at movie and glamour based talk shows, and videos of YouTube channels on similar lines.
At times, BFF Kareena decides to join her on such shows. Page 3 gossip columns keep us abreast of her glammed-up appearances, and colorful social life. She is also pretty active on the picture-sharing platform and keeps blessing her fans and followers with glimpsed of her beautiful life.
