After Akshay Kumar scored his highest opening with Mission Mangal and John Abraham scored his second highest opening film with Batla House on Independence Day, both films dropped at the box office on the second day.
After the biggest clash last year when Akshay Kumar starrer Gold took over the John Abraham starrer Satyameva Jayate during the Independence Day week, Akshay Kumar starrer Mission Mangal challenges John Abraham’s Batla House for the big weekend.
em>Mission Mangal is being directed by Jagan Shakti and stars Viday Balan, Sonakshi Sinha, Sharman Joshi, Tapsee Pannu and Nithya Menen in key roles. Mission Mangal tells the true story of the journey of Indian scientist from Indian Space Research Organisation who made it possible for Mars Orbiter Mission (Mangalyaan), the first Indian space probe to be launched in Mars.
Akshay Kumar scored yet another winning streak at the box office this year after Kesari (Rs 156 crore) ad Mission Mangal became his highest opening film taking advantages of two holidays – Independence Day and Rakhi on 15th August. Mission Mangal opened to an excellent response in the morning show with occupancy rate 50-55% and picked up later in the evening and night shows , consolidating the first day opening with gigantic Rs 29.16 crore which is the second best opening of the year after Bharat. This is similar to the opening of Gold last year and comfortably crossed its first day figure (Rs 25.25 crore).
As per early estimates, there was a drop on the second day since Friday was a normal working day to around 40% as compared to first day, collecting Rs 17 crore and bringing the 2 days total to Rs 46 crore. The earnings will shoot up again on Saturday and Sunday due to the long weekend. Batla House stars John Abraham, Ravi Kishan, Mrunal Thakur and Nora Fatehi and is being directed by Nikhil Advani (Kal Ho Na Ho and D-Day).
John Abraham has successfully build action star image with patriotic films like Parmanu-The Story Of Pokhran, Satyameva Jayate and RAW (Romeo Akbar Walter). He is back with Batla House, which tells the true incident of the 2008 controversial encounter at Batla House in Delhi.
Batla House has opened to a good 20-25% occupancy in the morning shows across India but did well in the evening and night shows, touching Rs 14.59 crore which is lesser than Satyameva Jayate. (Rs 20.52 crore) but good enough to post a second highest opening film of John Abraham.
As per early estimates, the cop-drama suffered a drop of around 45-50%, collecting Rs 7-8 crore and summing up the 2 days total to Rs 21.59-22.59 crore. The budget of Batla House is Rs 75 crore (Production Cost: Rs 60 Crore Prints & Advertising Cost: Rs 15 Crore)
