The stage is as Akshay Kumar takes on John Abraham once again for Independence Day 2019 when his film Mission Mangal faces Batla House. Let us check which opened well in the morning shows at the box office across India.
It was probably the biggest clash this year when Akshay Kumar starrer Gold took over the John Abraham starrer Satyameva Jayate during the Independence Day week last year. Both films went on to the record breaking opening and also became one of the highest grossing films of 2018. While Gold went to earn Rs 107.35 crores, Satyameva Jayate became the highest grossing film of John Abraham as a solo hero. Now, Akshay Kumar starrer Mission Mangal have locked the date for 15th August, 2019 which will also see the release of John Abraham’s Batla House.
em>Mission Mangal is being directed by Jagan Shakti and stars Viday Balan, Sonakshi Sinha, Sharman Joshi, Tapsee Pannu and Nithya Menen in key roles. Mission Mangal tells the true story of the journey of Indian scientist from Indian Space Research Organisation who made it possible for Mars Orbiter Mission (Mangalyaan), the first Indian space probe to be launched in Mars.
Akshay Kumar is probably at the best phase of his career. He scored well this year with Kesari (Rs 156 crore) released in Holi, while Mission Mangal is having two holidays to take advantage – Independence Day and Rakhi. The trailer has been welcomed and the movie has impressive star cast, especially Vidya Balan and Taapsee Pannu. The advance booking of Mission Mangal started last Saturday and review has been good till now. As per early estimates, Mission Mangal opened to an excellent response in the morning show with occupancy rate 50-55% which is the second best opening of the year after Bharat. This is similar to the opening of Gold last year but should comfortably cross its first day figure (Rs 25.25 crore) as the collection should pick up in the evening and night shows
Batla House stars John Abraham, Ravi Kishan, Mrunal Thakur and Nora Fatehi and is being directed by Nikhil Advani (Kal Ho Na Ho and D-Day).
John Abraham has successfully build action star image with patriotic films like Parmanu-The Story Of Pokhran, Satyameva Jayate and RAW (Romeo Akbar Walter). He is back with Batla House, which tells the true incident of the 2008 controversial encounter at Batla House in Delhi.
The trailer has been impressive and with solid reviews. As per early estimates, Batla House has opened to a good 20-25% occupancy in the morning shows across India which is lesser than Satyameva Jayate. The action-drama should open in the range of Rs 14-15 crore on its first day which will be less compared to the opening day figure of Satyameva Jayate (Rs 20.52 crore).
