Bollywood remakes do one thing the most, kill the originality factor whereas sequels which take forward the stories of their prequels are more relevant! Read the full story here…
Bollywood is seeing and is currently immersed in the era of remakes and rehashes whether it be movies or songs. The main reflection which we feel after seeing these remakes and already tried & tested formulas is that there is a lack of originality and it lacks novelty. The amount of remakes of iconic films and songs which have been made in the last 5 years in Bollywood surpasses more than any number of films made in any other genre which is an issue of concern!
On the brighter side, we also saw a few fantastic sequels which had scripts even better if no less than their sequels like Lagey Raho Munnabhai and Tanu Weds Manu Returns. Such sequels attained both box-office success and had brilliant scripts with freshness intact! While we would love to have such scripts being used as sequels, we don’t mind when a movie-franchise reaches their 5th or 6th edition. Though further sequels from the Dabangg and the Housefull series have only lost their credibility due to poor content!
Many sequels like Bunty Aur Bubbli 2, Dostana 2, Bhool Bhullaiya 2 and many such are ready in the pipeline for release so we might have more reasons to enjoy some credible cinema and refrain from watching shitty makeovers of original & iconic old films which have already set the bar a lot higher. Also, there is no thrill in doing something which already has been done. Just adding a bit of modernity and millennial lingo won’t do much to the final product.
We hope that the film makers are listening!
