Never judge a house by its facade.
UK-based Gayathri Gopal’s residence is a case in point. Within this 19th-century English country home lies a rustic-chic, tropical jungle. “I have created a minimalist country style with [Indian] ethnic influences,” says Gayathri. Popularly known as Gaya, her feed is a treasure trove of DIY inspiration that ranges from traditional art to up-cycled furniture.
Mother to a 6-year-old (and hundreds of plant babies), Gaya turned the lockdown into a positive, creative experience. She has enjoyed bonding with her daughter; gardening, cooking and biking together. “We created beautiful spaces in her room, like a canopy for reading. As long as each activity was not seen as a chore, it definitely kept our spirits up,” she adds.
Gaya and her family are looking forward to getting back to playing host and socialising. For now, they’re enjoying the summer in their private paradise.
