As World breastfeeding week comes to an end, celebrity mommy Neha Dhupia is encouraging mothers to come out and speak up about breastfeeding.
#Freedomtofeed is a campaign started by the actor where she is encouraging women and men to not only talk about why one should breastfeed and the benefits of it, but also the problems surrounding it. From lack of facilities for breastfeeding moms, to the pressure it puts on moms. She spoke to us about her own experiences while travelling with her two month old baby on outdoor shoots. She also spoke to us about feeding her in public places, and how it’s been a nightmare.
While speaking to FIT, she made it clear that idea was not to make someone feel guilty about not being able to feed, but to empower those who struggle to come forward and normalise the conversation around breastfeeding.
"“In case you are a mum and you decide that it’s hard for you to feed your child because of whatever reason, a demand and supply thing, the fact that the child is not latching, that you need to bounce back to work and look after yourself, it is fine. That’s why the campaign is called ‘freedom to feed’, where you want, how you want, how much you want. It doesn’t make you a bad person. The entire campaign is free of judgement and it should be free of guilt for sure.”"
She also shares a very intimate moment with us of the first time she breastfed her baby. It was a bitter sweet moment, but she says “Everything is worth it.”
Neha Dhupia and husband Angad Bedi became proud parents to a baby girl in November 2018. They named her Mehr Dhupia Bedi.
