Star-wife and the mother of two-star kids, Mira Rajput Kapoor, is one of the most famous Bollywood personalities, who is famous for literally nothing. Maybe it’s our misplaced priorities that had first turned the 21-year-old newlywed into one of the most chased divas of B’town, and then showered her with opportunities across all avenues of showbiz.
Wake-up call on consumers
We were being fed about her life before marriage to Shahid, her sartorial choices, and we consumed them daily. We all are guilty of it, and why not! A little gossip never hurt anyone. But, when Mira started receiving invitations for presiding over heavy-weight conversations and revealed herself to be inadequate of handling sensitive situations, we were made to realise we have been chasing a non-existent star.
“What’s the secret?”
Public ire broke on Mira after the star wife was cast as the face of a skincare brand and showed up on the screen advertising a skin transformation cream by the label that’s otherwise popular for selling anti-aging skin products. The ad had hardly dropped and hundreds of netizens jumped to social media to troll the then pregnant-with-second-child star wife.
Walking back on your own words?
Owing to her “inherited by marriage” star status, Mira had once graced the comfortable couch of Koffee With Karan, and when the conversation skirted around ‘nepotism’, she emphatically expressed her disagreement with the prevailing arrangement in Bollywood. Furious netizens called out her double standards for having criticising nepotism and almost immediately signed up with a beauty brand that understandably approached her because she was someone’s wife. That she was also too young to promote an anti-aging brand didn’t help her casting either.
Glimmering on a glossy cover
This wasn’t the first and last time Mira was bashed for encashing her star-wife status. Notorious for its cover-star choices, after being slammed for placing Suhana Khan on its cover, Vogue India attracted heavy flak for dedicating the Vogue Wedding Book 2019 to the mother-of-two, who doesn’t really have many, or any, personal accomplishments to flaunt.
Readers questioned the choice of the lifestyle glossy’s choice of cover star, and we understand where the objection came from.
If you are one of those people who are wondering what #MiraKapoor has done to be on the cover of @VOGUEIndia , let me tell you, that is a very good question. #pvsindhu #duteechand #himadas #professionals #housewives #anyotherwomanwhoworks— Shubza (@wotsdpoint) September 13, 2019
Tiptoeing the ramp
Mira, along with star husband Shahid Kapoor, has become a familiar face at the ramps too. While models with tons of talent are exhausting themselves sending profiles to designers and agencies, a star wife taking over the most eminent ramps does trigger a lot of dissatisfaction.
The modelling fraternity has often expressed disapproval with movie stars encroaching upon their arena; now if along with movie stars, their wives and daughters (Shweta Bachchan for instance), by the virtue of being so, claim the lion’s share in this domain, struggling models will be left with very less to compete for.
Many of them have come to Mumbai from remote areas with dreams of making it big in showbiz. They have invested in getting a professional profile made, and are struggling to make ends meet despite having everything it takes to be a model. And then they witness their hard work being sidelined in favour of a star-wife who gets it handed over effortlessly. The angst is very well-founded, isn’t it?
