Every person is in search of a blissful ending but for that, one has to write their own script. `Samhita’ is based on that thought
Subhash Ghai's latest Marathi film ‘Samhita’ was recently screened at the 11th Pune International Film Festival and received an overwhelming response
“God is really bad script writer. When will we be able to write our own script?’’ Based on this thought, Samhita tells the story of an ailing producer who wants his wife to produce a film on his favourite story based on a king and a court singer. This is the 13th feature film by film-maker duo of Sumitra Bhave and Sunil Sukthankar, both of whom have won several state, National and International awards.
In the movie, Revati, a National award winning filmmaker played by Devika Dafatardar as central character has visualized a screenplay, set in the era of the British Raj. It is the story of a king, a queen and a court singer. It is the story of love, detachment, surrender and passion. The film-maker’s personal life is intermingled with the visualization. Movie stars actors like Milind Soman, Uttara Baokar, Rajeshwari Sachdeo, Devika Daftardar, Jyoti Subhash and others.

While talking to the press before the movie’s release, Ghai said, “We earn money from movies so it is our responsibility to spend money in making movies. I am a student of the Pune film institute and so I love producing Marathi films. There are two types of films, one which are made to make money and another which are made to gain satisfaction. Samhita is second kind of movie.”
When director Sumitra Bhave was asked about what inspired her to make this movie, she replied, “For a satisfying end, one has to write one’s own script. I wanted to express this thought of mine through film so I made this Samhita.’’
For Milind Soman, this is the second Marathi film, after Gandha, that he is acting in. “It was fantastic experience working in such an amazing film,” he said about the experience.
Samhita, a must-watch movie, will release in February.
