The much-anticipated Acura NSX hasn’t even hit the market yet, and rumor has it Honda planning a drop-top. How’s that for forward thinking? Autocar sat down with principal designer Jun Goto, who said an NSX convertible is planned to hit the market sometime in 2017:
“We are looking at the convertible,” said Goto, “but we have a long way to go with it.” He also went on to give some minor hints at the production NSX: “The production car is larger in every direction than the concept but it looks almost exactly the same. At least 95 percent of the exterior styling will be carried over to the production car.”
Of course, Honda hasn’t given us all the details just yet on the convertible — like whether it will be a hard or soft top. But we do hear that the drop top will come with the same twin-turbo V6 hybrid and all-wheel drive system as the hardtop.
Expect the all-new NSX to be revealed in full sometime next year with the convertible following suit in 2017.
