Those who are well versed with Bollywood history will be aware of the fact that post the Amitabh Bachchan era (due to the mega star's self-exile); the biggest claimant to the throne was none other than our 'Khiladi' Akshay Kumar with his authentic and genuine action.
Starting with KHILADI (1992) to KHILADIYON KA KHILADI (1996), Akshay ruled the roost, along with some films from Ajay Devgn and Sunil Shetty.
However, with NRI romance setting in, it was the turn of the Khans to unseat Akshay's dominance and the 'Khiladi' went through his worse phase. But it was around the millennium that Akshay made a grand comeback with SANGHARSH, JAANWAR, AANKHEN, HERA PHERI, DHADKAN and EK RISHTA-THE BOND OF LOVE. It was followed by films like ANDAAZ, AITRAAZ, MUJHSE SHAADI KAROGI etc.
What is important to note is that apart from action and comedy (Akshay's forte), the above mentioned films had a lot of emotions and romantic angles, and even at a later stage films like WELCOME, SINGH IS KINGG , HOUSEFULL, etc were just not mindless comedies, but there was a lot of social drama and story involved.
With KHILADI 786 and BOSS under-performing, despite having everything going for the two films (chartbusting music, good dose of action and comedy), it's now time for Akshay to introspect.
Our advice to the super star is to go back to romance and social drama (with a sprinkling of action and comedy), and try and win back the families (which seems to have deserted him post HOUSEFULL 2), that is so very important in ensuring huge successes, and not just films which are a weekend phenomenon.
