With ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAAI 2 and SPECIAL 26 spaced out by six months, it must have seemed that for an otherwise prolific Akshay Kumar, things had slowed down a little. As has turned out though, this was just calm after releasing six films in a matter of one year for the 'khiladi' Kumar, even as the actor was busy shooting all this while. Not just that as he is starting quite a few films in quick succession, which means Eid 2013 onwards, it would be back to continued releases for the actor who has prided in hitting the screens 3-5 times a year.
"That's true," says a source, "Akshay believes in releasing multiple films a year and that won't change at all. Okay, so there has been a minor exception with ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAAI 2 arriving after a good gap. However it was planned this way since this one is a biggie which deserves all his time and attention. Moreover, there are huge plans for the film's marketing and promotion as well. Akshay didn't want to squeeze in any film in the middle of it all."
However now with Akshay signing Sanjay Leela Bhansali's GABBAR, one can expect a flurry of releases post the arrival of the Milan Luthria directed sequel.
"First to arrive would be Anthony D'Souza's BOSS which is carrying very good reports and would hit the screens on 18th October. Then there would be remake of THUPPAKKI which is making brisk progress too. Meanwhile Akshay would soon be starting shoot of Sajid-Farhad's directorial debut. With GABBAR coming in as well, Akshay would have a minimum of three films each releasing in 2013 and 2014. Moreover, it won't be surprising if he brings in a fourth film as well next year. He likes to be busy," says a close associate.
For an actor with over 100 films to his credit in 20 years and stays on to be a top superstar who is still kicking and alive, we are hardly surprised.
