Amitabh: 'Today, education has become commerce!'

Amitabh Bachchan can soon gear up for round two of appreciation. After winning all those raves for essaying the feisty don in Bbuddah Hoga Terra Baap, it is time to salute senior Bachchan once again as he serves up yet another stunning portrayal in Prakash Jha's  Aarakshan centred around the prickly issues of reservation hampering the education system in India.

States Bachchan senior, " In the film, I play a principled head of an educational institution, who sticks by his values and ideals and prefers to teach in his own private space rather than bow down to the corrupt ways that are rampant in the education system. He believes that there should be equal opportunities in education for all classes, regardless of their social strata."

Adds Bachchan significantly, "Today, education has become commerce, specially in the smaller towns and cities of India, where reservation is altering the manner in which education is being perceived. My character in Aarakshan feels that once equal opportunities are given to all, then a candidate should be judged only on the basis of merit thereafter and on no other criteria."
