Imagine 'Gabbar Singh' getting all moony-eyed while singing a love song for his lady love? Well, it is pretty far-fetched by any stretch of imagination. However this wasn't quite a thought when Arshad Warsi (whose villainous character of 'Fauji' in his film ZILA GHAZIABAD has been designed on the iconic character of SHOLAY) started shooting for the film. Not just was there a romantic angle (Minissha Lamba) added to his track, a full-fledged song was picturised on the duo as well. However after some deliberation, it was decided that the song was just not fitting in and was ultimately dropped.
"This is a song titled 'Ranjha Jogi' which was sung by Sonu Nigam and Shreya Ghoshal. Arshad was quite sure that the song would do well with the film's narrative but not everyone was equally convinced. The makers didn't want to create much fuss around it while the shooting was on and still went ahead and picturised the song," informs a source.
However at the back of the mind many associated with the film felt that to have a song like this picturised on a hardcore villain disturbed the flow of the film.
"It was just not fitting in," the source adds, "Ultimately when the final cut of the film was being put together, 'Ranjha Jogi' had to be left out. When Arshad too saw the flow of sequences, he was convinced that it was in the best interest of the film to leave out the song. Also, his character now seemed much more menacing and powerful. There was no heartburn whatsoever and everything is now cool and settled."
There is still some good news for Arshad and Minissha as the song would be used for the promotional purpose at least. Now that should cheer up the on-screen couple!
