With director Subhash Kapoor being signed for the third installment of the MUNNABHAI series, there is an enhanced interest in his JOLLY LLB which is all set to release later this month. For a filmmaker who saw some brownie points coming his way with the release of PHAS GAYE RE OBAMA a couple of years back, he promises to bring in good entertainment in the form of a satire that takes on the judicial system.
"Case in point being, several cases that are currently being fought in the country where people are trying to prove that they are alive. Can you believe that," Arshad says in mock exasperation, "They are fighting for ages ki arrey yaar, main zinda hoon. Subhash had many such interesting anecdotes to narrate when he was working on JOLLY LLB. The film is as relevant as it gets as there are many true facts being told in there. It is a story about an underdog. It has a lot of depth and humour."
While quite a few films in the past have been centered on the life and times of an underdog, often it has been seen that a film begins on a very impressive note, only to run out of steam (and in the process humour) as it starts approaching the finishing line.
"Nahi nahi, aisa JOLLY LLB ke saath nahi hoga," smiles Arshad, "There is a good pace which is maintained for an overall light hearted treatment. Of course towards the last 5-10 minutes you would see things turning a little dramatic. However over all, the mood remains good. The beauty of the film is that it is not boring or preachy. Baaton baaton mein baat keh di jaati hai. It is not a stupid movie; it is a very intelligently told story."
We would wait to see that once the drama unfolds on 15th March 2013.
