New Delhi, Oct 3 (IANS) Acclaimed Chinese filmmaker Zhang Yimou has been chosen to receive the international lifetime achievement award at the 14th Mumbai Film Festival (MFF), to be held Oct 18-25.

One of China's most prominent directors, Yimou has helmed films like "To Live", "House of Flying Daggers", "Hero", "Curse of The Goldern Flower", and "Raise the Red Lantern".

He has earlier been conferred notable international accolades at events like Berlin, Venice and Cannes film festivals. Yimou also directed the opening and closing ceremonies for the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympic Games.

In the Indian cinema category, veteran actress Waheeda Rahman will receive the lifetime achievement award.

The MFF will be hosted at the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) in Mumbai.
