Any Bangalorean will tell you that one of the city’s biggest assets is its perennially pleasant weather. And the newly opened JW Marriott Bengaluru—located on Vittal Mallya Road between the verdant Cubbon Park and the upscale shopping and entertainment hub, UB City—is all set to make the most of it.

The hotel’s design is characterised by high ceilings, large windows and access to the outdoors wherever possible—and four of its five restaurants and bars offer alfresco seating areas.

The 297 rooms (97 of which have balconies) open out to either park views, the state legislature’s round domes or UB City. For the best views of the park, however, book the Executive or Cubbon suites on floors eight and above. At 464sq ft, this hotel claims to have the largest base category rooms in Bengaluru. In the suites, stand-alone bathtubs add to the notion of roominess. Even the amenities—bedside switches to operate window curtains and universal plug points—are well thought out.

The Marriott group’s celebrity chef Surjan Singh Jolly has crafted the menu at the 24-hour JW Kitchen, and insists his dal makhani will rival the best. Having sampled some, I can’t help but agree. Health-conscious souls are also bound to love the high-fibre, protein-rich bajra and nachni rotis that roll out of his kitchen. The restaurant is all set to be a top venue for Sunday brunch, which is currently very popular in Bengaluru.

At the time of my visit, the hotel staff was preparing an outdoor space for this very purpose. Spice Terrace, the hotel’s other Indian restaurant, is by the poolside. It’s a dinner-only venue, with a DJ spinning tunes on weekends. While this may turn away a more mature clientele, the hotel’s strategy is to pull in the younger crowd that otherwise throngs neighbouring UB City. Guests seeking peace and quiet should instead head to Bar Uno, which serves wines and single malts as well as 12 classic cocktails, including Mint Julep and Moscow Mule.

Given its strategic location, the JW Marriott Bengaluru plans to use its 10,000sq ft-plus banquet space for conferences and events. It has nine meeting rooms and a 5,000sq ft Grand Ballroom, which had bookings even before it officially opened—solid evidence, perhaps, that this addition to the city’s hospitality scene is already receiving a warm welcome.
