'Ek Thi Daayan', 'Shootout At Wadala' To Only Release In Multiplexes?

Patrons of single screens will surely cringe after reading this piece of news. Ekta Kapoor and Vishal Bhardwaj's upcoming production venture Ek Thi Daayan, will only release in multiplexes. Reportedly, Kapoor has also decided not to screen her forthcoming gangland drama Shootout At Wadala in single screens.

Ekta has decided to completely boycott single screens. The reason behind her decision is the on-going rift between Balaji Motion Pictures And UTV Motion Pictures. Both the production houses are releasing their films, Once Upon A Mumbaai Again (Balaji) and Chennai Express (UTV), this Eid and Balaji feels that single screen theaters have sidelined their movie and have given more importance to Chennai Express.

Sources claim that by not releasing 'ETD' and Shootout At Wadala in single screens, Ekta is trying to put pressure on them to change their mind.

Commenting on the same, Manoj Desai, owner of G7 theater, Bandra, and Maratha Mandir, Mumbai Central says, “"Ekta's decision will harm her own film. Theaters won't shut down if she doesn't give us a movie. We will show some English release dubbed in Hindi instead. We don't like anyone trying to monopolize things." Manoj is however hopeful that  things will eventually work out.

Ek Thi Daayan, which stars Emraan Hashmi, Kalki Koechlin, Huma Qureshi and Konkona Sen Sharma in the lead roles,  is slated to release on 19th April, 2013.
