I woke up to the chill mountain air of the Palani Hills and knew that I was home. It was a wonderful day walking down memory lane around Kodai town and Kodaikanal International School. I haven't been back in 13 years and it's interesting to see all the little shops that are still there from my time and then noting all the new buildings and Dominos and KFC that have come up. Some things change and some things stay the same.
Stepping foot on Kodai School campus after all these years was quite a big moment and the memories came rushing back. "There used to be a swing there; I played racquetball here; There was a big tree here; Wow, these huge steps are still here..." It's reassuring to know how strong my memories from Kodai are. I met my old dormparent, Mr. Samuel and my old physical education teacher, Mr. Sither and some old ayyas and drivers.
In the evening, a long-time Kodai School friend who's now a teacher on campus invited me and some other alumni for dinner. Her house is in a beautiful staff compound and there were two huge gaurs (bison) just relaxing a few meters from her home. I was happy that Kodai is still wild even with all the rapid develoment that's taking place now..
