John Abraham Wants Circuses To Be Animal-Free

John Abraham might have played a baddie in films like Dhoom, Race 2 and the upcoming Shootout At Wadala, but the hunk is quite a softie when it comes to animals.

The Force actor, who is associated with PETA (People for Ethical Treatment of Animals), recently wrote a letter to  Jayanthi Natarajan, the Minister of Environment and Forests, urging her to make all circuses in India animal-free. In his letter, Abraham wrote, “Unlike human performers, animals are forced to entertain through the use of fear, pain or hunger. Whips, clubs, hooks and other weapons are often used to inflict pain on elephants and other animals in order to force them to perform confusing tricks. I hope you will look into your heart and make the compassionate choice by issuing an immediate ban on the use of all animals in circuses."

He further added, “When the show is over, the animals are forced back into their cages or are shackled or tied, loaded onto lorries and taken to the next town. They never get a break from this endless cycle of abuse. The Indian government already bans bears, monkeys, tigers, panthers, lions and bulls from being used in performances. But no animal – no matter the species – wants to be chained, caged, hit or psychologically abused. Greece and Bolivia have already banned the use of all animals in circuses, and I join PETA in calling on the Indian government to follow suit.”

John will be next seen playing the role of dreaded gangster Manya Surve in Sanjay Gupta's Shootout At Wadala, which also stars Anil Kapoor, Manoj Bajpayee, Sonu Sood, Tusshar Kapoor, Kangna Ranaut and others.
