'Why should boys have all the fun?' - This is pretty much what Amrita Puri said to herself when she found herself in KAI PO CHE!, a film about friends, friendship and some male bonding. While the three protagonists Sushant Singh Rajput, Amit Sadh and Raj Kumar Yadav are clearly enjoying each other's company and dominating the proceedings, Amrita too is making best use of the space made available for her. No wonder, once she caught hold of the 'Garba' number 'Shubhaarambh', she was more than happy to grab it with both hands.
"I had to go for dance rehearsals since it required some hardcore steps. Unlike 'Gal Meethi Meethi' (AISHA) which was still on the casual side, 'Shubhaarambh' required me to dance like a professional," says Amrita, "This was an altogether new experience for me and I was quite nervous about it. Reason being that 'Garba' is taken very seriously in Gujarat and I couldn't afford to slip at all."
Though Amrita has danced in a 'Garba' before, it has been in one of those numerous 'Navratri' events in Mumbai where she could just afford to let her hair down. However 'Shubhaarambh' was different.
"I sat down and saw some real life videos of Gujarati people dancing," reveals Amrita, "I had to be sure that when I come on screen, audience believes that this girl is someone who is pucca Ahmedabadi. Moreover I was wearing this elaborate 'ghaghra-choli' and to carry that well on screen, I had to go on diet. After all, I had to look good. Eventually I had to go through this entire rigmarole and it all came out really well."
Hopefully the effort would indeed show on screen.
