The two releases of the week have gone very much on the expected and predicted line. While UTV Motion Picture's KAI PO CHE! has been lapped up by the high end multiplex audience of Metros, the masses have taken a liking for ZILA GHAZIABAD.
As per the distribution and exhibition sources, the Abhishek Kapoor directed KAI PO CHE! has opened with collections in the range of 25-50 percent. The best collections have come from the Western circuit as also West Bengal (thanks to Chetan Bhagat). However, the mass belt of North and Central India has not really warmed up to the film. Given the positive reports and feedback the film picked up further (especially at high end multiplexes) in the latter shows. There is likely to be further escalation (though sectional) in collections during the remaining two days of the weekend.
The other release of the week, the Sanjay Dutt, Arshad Warsi and Vivek Oberoi starrer, ZILA GHAZIABAD, has opened with collections in the 10-35 percent range. The best performance comes from CP Berar, C.I., UP and bordering districts of Bihar. Given that the feedback is not so positive; the film has tough days ahead, despite the associated big names.
Meanwhile last week's MURDER 3 has netted a below par 18 crore in the first week and will have to rely on non-theatrical rights for recovery. The second release of the same week, Vivek-Neha's JAYANTABHAI KI LUV STORY has barely netted 3 crore during the opening week and has failed.
