Kia has come a long way from what it once was. Vehicles like the Forte, Cadenza and Optima are all a testament to the brand’s selling power and newfound quality. But where’s the excitement? Where’s the sense of purpose? Relatively nowhere…yet.
According to new reports from Auto Express, the dazzling Kia GT concept we saw back in Frankfurt is actually going into production for next year, but that’s not all. Kia also has a special Miata-style roadster planned for the Detroit Auto Show as well. A hopeful sign of things to come for the South Korean automaker.
Details on either of these two vehicles are still slim at this point. Early rumors suggest that the GT could use Kia’s K9 flagship as a base, although a more likely solution would be to borrow technology from sibling Hyundai and its Genesis coupe.
The roadster on the other hand, we’re still waiting for the official reveal in Detroit. But Kia does say that if there’s enough of a demand for the two-seater, it could go into production with the GT by sometime next year.
