There are certain filmmakers who charter their own course, and Sanjay Khanduri is one of them! Having directed the Abhay Deol-Neha Dhupia starrer, EK CHALIS KI LAST LOCAL, one of the most appreciated and discussed film (even now!), Sanjay did not hasten to grab the next offer.
Giving the reasons Sanjay says, "It is important to put across your second film very carefully as it will determine your strength and convictions, because the first film only leaves an impression ('chaap chodti hai'). After EK CHALIS KI LAST LOCAL, I gave myself a one year break as I had struggled for five years before my first break. In that year I also got married. After that I was called by a lot of people and I discussed KLPD but nothing materialized. You know one has to be backed by the right producers otherwise you end up making their film and not yours. I believe that your idea and convictions as a director should be intrinsic and intact."
We then asked him if it was his style to make a film based on a series of interesting happenings in a day/night, Sanjay replied, "In a way you are right. KISMET LOVE PAISA DILLI (KLPD) can be called a sequel to ECKLL though the setting and city is different, but the pillars are similar. There is comedy, black humour, love story but obviously the script is different. In fact the comedy in KLPD is ahead of ECKLL."
With the promos already arousing curiosity and the interesting and controversial title (we will talk about that later), getting big attention, there are good chances that KLPD to make a mark both critically and commercially when it releases this Friday.
