Manoj Bajpai is in ferocious form. As a (asli waale) CBI officer who is out to nail (nakli waale) officers (Akshay Kumar, Anupam Kher), he is making sure that those breaking the law are on a run. However, not many are aware that he had to run himself for a really long period of time before he could bag the film which is looking like an exciting 'chor police' affair.
"When Neeraj Pandey's A WEDNESDAY had released, I was not in a very good shape physically. I was going through physiotherapy and my career had taken a toll. I could only see great work of many directors without being a part of that. I used to call those guys and show my work to them. Neeraj was one of them," reveals Manoj.
Though one would be tempted to believe that an actor of Bajpai's caliber was a quick enough choice for the makers, the man at the hot seat insists that it was never the case.
"Arrey kahan, I struggled for four years to get this role," he laughs, "I kept in touch with Neeraj very closely since the release of A WEDESDAY that resulted in me getting hold of such a role. All credit to him for thinking of me to worthy enough of this part. Otherwise I am in touch with many directors but not all offer me roles. I also don't feel ashamed and keep reaching out to them."
Today he is happy to have bagged the part.
"SPECIAL 26 is a light hearted smart thriller and there is so much of layering which is all done in the script," he says, "Neeraj has a very clear idea about what he wants from his actors. His homework is all done and he just wants all his guys to follow his vision. He also makes sure that while watching his films, audience think and guess a lot while being on the edge. Till the last frame, it would be difficult for the audience to be sure of how the film will end. That's the beauty of this magnificent director."
