Merchant navy using Britney Spears' hits to scare off Somali pirates

London, Oct 28 (ANI): Britney Spears' hits are being used by the merchant navy to scare off the approaching Somali raiders.

Second Officer Rachel from Aberfoyle in Scotland said that the 31-year-old singer's songs have been chosen by the security team to accompany their tankers as they thought the pirates would hate them the most.

Chart-toppers like 'Baby One More Time' and 'Oops! I Did It Again' are the most effective against the Kalashnikov carrying bandits, the Mirror reported.

Rachel said that there are a lot of lives and cargo at stake so security is of paramount importance.

She said that the speakers can be aimed solely at the pirates so as not to disturb the ship's crew.

Rachel asserted that the method is so effective that the ship's security rarely needs to fire guns, adding that as soon as the pirates get a blast of Spears they move on as quickly as they can. (ANI)
