Ever since SAAWARIYA (2007), you have been looking over your shoulder for 'that' elusive hit to come your way, like you did in that film for your 'best friend'.
Don't stop looking; like the expectant lover, stay alert, for you do not know when that time will be. If your heart is in the right place, the hit will follow. After that it will be just a deluge! Nay, Jhakaas would be an apt description!
You have that 'streak of genius' in you to revolutionize, to stand out, and to reach out to the audience. I know you will say that there are a few in the industry who have already written you off and that you are still around, thanks to your 'filmy connections'. That may be partly true: how many girls or boys for that matter get chances after chances? But what is also true is that your 'hit' is just around the corner!
You have already made a fashion statement with your 'unique dress sense'. Unique because of the way you stylishly dress and carry off the garments, which most would flounder in. Be it stylish chic, ethnic, bohemian or plain 'experimental'; you stand out. In dressing, you have created a zone of your own. Internationally and nationally. It has a lot to do with your bone structure and your in-born confidence to standout, no matter what they say. Your eyes too tell another story. They spoke a lot in SAAWARIYA.
That same confidence is there in your acting; be it SAAWARIYA, DELHI 6, MAUSAM or PLAYERS or the few other films in between. I have always been impressed by your performance. After watching your debut flick, I had mentioned that you and Ranbir Kapoor were born to act. Ranbir has literally flown off the handle and how! He is a class act! Yours is to follow.
What has gotten you down is the failure of the good films you have done which you would have banked heavily on. MAUSAM went on and on. You were the ideal actor to portray that role. Alas, the script was written from the director's point of view. PLAYERS saw you 'try too hard'. That could be because in an Abbas-Mustan thriller, emotion is where the action is!
All you have to do is be yourself and give it your best. That elusive hit will follow.
In my letter to Shahid Kapoor a few weeks ago, I had mentioned that four Kapoors will rule the roost in the years to come. You are one of them. And I don't say that lightly. Apart from the in-born talent that you already have, you also have the pedigree.
Your dad, Anil Kapoor, in spite of having filmy connections, made it on his own steam. He kept working hard. You don't have to go far to look for inspiration. MUNNA is there at home. MASHAAL was that one defining hit that changed gears for him. TEZAAB (the violent love story) shattered all doubts about his abilities.
This is your acid test. RAANJHANAA can be your TEZAAB.
All the best
