There had been lots of speculation over the past few weeks about whether Sanjay Leela Bhansali will rope in Priyanka Chopra or some other actress to play the role of boxer Mary Kom in a biopic to be made on the life of the Olympic medal winner.
However, putting all speculations to rest, it has been announced that Priyanka Chopra, or Piggy Chops, as she is known, has been finalised to play the role of Mary Kom in the biopic. Sources close to the project also revealed that Chopra will learn the nuances of boxing from none other than Kom, who will train the actress for around four months before the shoot starts. Not only this, the Barfi! babe will also travel to Manipur and spend a few days with Mary's family so as to get a feel of her family life and her struggles. Last but not the least, Kom is also expected to make a guest appearance in the film, probably as Chopra's opponent in the climax boxing bout.
Chopra was last seen playing the role of an autistic girl in Anurag Basu's Barfi!, a performance which earned her rave reviews from critics and audiences alike.
