How many of us would be aware about the fact that RAMAIYA VASTAVAIYA being directed by Prabhudheva in Hindi is actually the Hindi version of the first movie that he directed in his direction career. Indeed, Prabhudheva could perhaps become the first director in the history of Indian cinema to get an opportunity to redirect his debut making movie NUVVOSTANANTE NENODDANTANA, which he had made in Tamil to re-direct in Hindi.
For the aficionados it would be instructive to be informed that Prabhudheva's debut film NUVVOSTANANTE NENODDANTANA was an out and out romantic film, but somehow he has been bracketed in the category of being an action director what with two of his movies WANTED and ROWDY RATHORE shot through and through with action.
Another characteristic feature of Prabhudheva movies has been the rural milieu as he showed it in vivid detail in ROWDY RATHORE and to an extent in WANTED, though for ROWDY RATHORE it was at times out of sync to veneer around to the view that a village down South has been used as a location to project a village in Bihar. But these are the cinematic liberties that a director is allowed and for the fans of the cinema if the location is able to bring about the rural flavor then the geographical tag of location is not that important. Even in JOLLY LLB, where Arshad Warsi is supposedly going to Gorakhpur in UP, the location clearly points out to the fact that the shot has been undertaken somewhere in Maharashtra.
For RAMAIYA VASTAVAIYA Prabhudheva perhaps gets ample opportunity to explore the famous fields of Punjab which continue to dominate the landscape of scores of films, but every time a filmmaker approaches Punjab, he gives it his own flavor. Prabhu Deva being Prabhu Deva, one should expect that he would give a different interpretation to the fields of Punjab than what has been presented to the fans so far. What Prabhu dheva specializes in is pandering to the emotions and thereby increasing the footfalls at the box office. One hopes he is able to achieve the same with RAMAIYA VASTAVAIYA as well.
