Buzz is that Ranbir Kapoor, who will be acting in the upcoming Anurag Kashyap film Bombay Velvet, will be producing it as well. The film is currently being produced by Phantom Productions. Ranbir was quoted saying that this seems to be the perfect time in his career to take up bigger ownership of a film and be a producer. Sources reveal that Anurag has had several meetings with the presenters of the film, Viacom 18, and that the budget of the film is close to 95 crores.
Ranbir is also working on Anurag's brother Abhinav Kashyap's film Besharam, where he has agreed to a profit-share model with the producers. For Bombay Velvet, he has taken the decision to co-produce. The film, based to historian Gyan Prakash's Mumbai Fables, is the story of how the city became a metropolis against the backdrop of love, greed, violence and jazz music. It will be a part of a trilogy that will cover 50s, 60s and 70s. It also stars Anushka Sharma.
