One thing is for sure that YAMLA PAGLA DEEWANA 2 is going to have footfalls of the toddlers as well, as a monkey has been given an integral part in the movie. Whenever a monkey or its genealogical associates, be it a Chimpanzee, an Orangutan (which stars in YPD 2) or a Panda or a gorilla have been given a role of eminence in cinema, it has been a sure shot hit, and producers and directors of YPD 2 seems to have taken a leaf out from the past to ensure that YPD 2 also scores bulls-eye at the box office. Incidentally, this Orangutan charged Rs. 60 lakh to act in YPD 2.
On the eve of YPD 2 releasing, here is a list of successful films wherein monkeys or their distant cousins have played a significant role. Hindi cinema has not been able to put them to use on as regular a basis as it is done by filmmakers in Hollywood.
AANKHEN: David Dhawan's magnum opus could not have been successful were it not to have a chimpanzee playing an important role in the film children would not have come in droves to watch the film.
DELHI-6: The whole idea of DELHI-6 was based on a monkey man who is wreaking havoc, but the template could not succeed here as the humor associated with the monkey was not shown rather superstitions associated with it were highlighted.
TARZAN: The debut film of Hemant Birje and Kimi Katkar had a monkey playing a prominent role and was the catalyst in making it a surprise hit.
BABY'S DAY OUT: It is the most successful film where a Gorilla played an important role and generated humorous situation. Surprisingly this film has not been made in Hindi so far.
DUNSTAN CHECKS IN: Again a rip-roaring comedy, whenever it is shown on the television it attracts children and the adults alike to watch it with concentration.
KING KONG: A love story between a Gorilla and a lady and the revenge of gorilla against the civilization to get his lady love back made it a roaring hit of all times.
One only hopes that YPD 2 also gets footfalls and paves the way for monkey business in Hindi cinema in a big way.
