Nicola McLean has criticised Coleen Rooney for making accusations about Rebekah Vardy while she is heavily pregnant.

Vardy has been targeted by trolls online after fellow “Wag” Rooney accused her of sharing stories from her private Instagram account with The Sun.

She has even received death threats, with people saying they hope she – and her unborn baby – dies.

Defending her friend on This Morning, McLean said Vardy was “devastated” by what had happened and suggested Rooney should have waited before accusing her.

She said the level of abuse was “horrific”.

She said: “Forget who it is, a celebrity, a Wag, a normal person, pregnancy we all know, stress can cause so much upset.

“We’ve just had a report from psychiatrists not that long ago, that it can affect the baby's brain.”

“You shouldn’t be this stressed out when you are pregnant,” she said.

McLean suggested that Rooney should have waited, given that Vardy is seven months pregnant.

“She’s a mother, she should know this is not acceptable,” she went on.

“Come out now and say, until Rebekah is proven guilty, let’s leave this now. This is not OK.”

Rooney’s claim hit the headlines earlier this week.

The 33-year-old said she had spent months trying to work out who was sharing stories about her, so blocked everyone from her private Instagram account except Vardy to see who it was.

Vardy – wife of footballer Jamie Vardy - later denied the allegations and insisted she doesn’t speak to the press about Rooney. She also said she is not the only person who has access to her Instagram account.

“Over the past years various people have had access to my Insta... I’m not being funny but I don’t need the money. What would I gain from selling stories on you?” she tweeted.
