After reports of trouble in TMC MP and actress, Nusrat Jahan and businessman, Nikhil Jain’s marriage, she had released an official statement and opened up about her separation with him. She had even called her marriage invalid. And now, Nikhil Jain reacts to her statements and talks about the same.
Talking about their marriage, the Bengali actress, Nusrat tied the knot with her businessman boyfriend on June 19, 2019, in the Turkish town of Bodrum. After Nusrat’s interfaith marriage, the most prominent seminary of Islamic education in Asia, Dar-ul-Uloom had issued a fatwa against her. But the couple stood for their love for one another. However, for the past couple of months, there have been reports about Nusrat and Nikhil’s separation.
On June 9, 2021, Nusrat issued an official statement about her marriage with Nikhil Jain, clearing all the doubts about her marital status. And now, in an interview with India Today, Nikhil Jain reacted to Nustrat’s statement and revealed that he has filed for an annulment in Kolkata.
Refusing to divulge details, Nikhil stated, “These are legalities, I don't really want to comment on anything she's said because the matter is sub judice in court. I have filed a civil suit in Kolkata and I will not comment on it till it is in court.” He also revealed that the two have been separated since November 2020.
Nusrat had shocked everyone when she had called her marriage invalid in India as per the marriage regulation rules of the Turkish government. She had said, "Being on foreign land, as per Turkish Marriage Regulation, the ceremony is invalid. Moreover, since it was an interfaith marriage, it requires validation under Special Marriage Act in India, which did not happen."
Going further in her statement, Nusrat had also added that according to marriage rules in court also, her wedding with Nikhil Jain isn't a valid one, and their separation had happened a long time ago. She had continued, "As per the court of law, it is not a Marriage, but a relationship or a live-in relationship. Thus, the question of divorce does not arise. Our separation happened long back."
But the details of Nusrat’s marital status on the Lok Sabha website states that she is married, with her husband, Nikhil Jain's name mentioned. Not just this, while taking the oath as the MP, she used the name Nusrat Jahan Ruhi Jain, which means she had provided incorrect details about herself in Lok Sabha.
While Nusrat had flaunted her marital status, her recent claims about her invalid marriage had received many backlashes on social media. Netizens questioned the authenticity of her statements and reminded her how she had taken her oath in the Parliament as Nusrat Jahan Ruhi Jain after her victory in Lok Sabha polls in 2019.
